UPDATE GERMANY Wired News 9/13/1999 It's an old joke. Question: Why does the Champs d'Elysees have so many trees? Answer: So the German army can march in the shade. Those fears appear to be rising again in France, according to a report in the International Herald Tribune, which quoted the permanent secretary of the French Academy as saying that Germany poses the biggest threat to European peace in the 21st century. Maurice Druon dismisses the recent history of warm relations between the two old antagonists, saying that the Germans are re-emerging as an imperial, dominant force in Europe. With Germany assuming a more prominent role in continental politics, and with Berlin once again the most important capital east of the Rhine, Druon is not the only Frenchman hearing jackboots in his sleep, the Herald Trib said. Better start sewing those white flags, Maurice. The Roman Emperors even have their own site.

Rev 17:{8} "The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to ascend from the bottomless pit and go to destruction. And the inhabitants of the earth, whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will be amazed when they see the beast, because it was and is not and is to come." This beast is a composite of both beasts of Revelation 13 and is the heir to the four beasts of Daniel; it is the Roman Empire of John's time, which originated in the bottomless pit, is empowered by the devil (dragon), and personified by the emperor (false prophet). As Yahweh God is "the one who was and is and is to come," the Rome-Beast is the antithesis, "one who was and is not and is about to ascend." The Rome-Beast is a Trinitarian god: Dragon / Beast / False Prophet. Worldlings are awestricken, for this living Beast was previously dead. "It was . . . and is to come." As explained in Revelation 13, the beast is represented by Nero Caesar, who died of a self-inflicted head wound, but came back to life in the form of the emperor Domitian, described in the next verses. The parallels between the two despots (and to Hitler) are striking, even to modern historians. Although we covered this earlier, now we will go into more detail. DATING OF REVELATION: John experienced his Revelation sometime between AD 68 and 79, during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, the "one who is living," (v. 10). Since the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 is not mentioned (although John recounts 1/3 of the city destroyed in the future), I date the vision to 68 or 69 AD, much earlier than the mainstream. John was prophesying the coming of Domitian in 81, not experiencing his persecutions. John is a victim of Nero (54 – 68). Scholars who date Revelation to the 90s sacrifice the prophetic. No, John is not that ancient crone portrayed in popular books and videos. He is perhaps 60 years old on Patmos, not 90 something. If he were very old, the guards would have dispatched him. 04.06.02 The Seven Heads Rev 17:9-11 Rev 17:{9} "This calls for a mind that has wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; also, they are seven kings, {10} of whom five have fallen, one is living, and the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain only a little while. {11} As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth but it belongs to the seven, and it goes to destruction." The seven heads of the beast signify both where "The Whore" is seated and the identities of the heads. The "where" is Rome, as proven in the section 04.05. "Kings" refers to "Caesars." Here are the eight kings (Caesars) of Rome referred to by the Revelator: Five had fallen: Augustus (31 BC - AD 14) died of illness or was suffocated (Jesus was born during his reign, in 5 - 3 BC.), Tiberius (AD 14 - 37) was smothered (Jesus was crucified during his reign.), Caligula (37 - 41) was assassinated (He ordered his statue to be worshiped in the Jerusalem Temple, but was murdered before it came to pass.), Claudius (41 - 54) was poisoned (His wife, Valeria
Messalina, was notorious for her murders and adulteries, and was probably the prophetic model for the "Whore of Babylon."), Nero stabbed himself in the neck (54 - 68) (Nero Caesar is 666, burner of Rome and persecutor of Christians. Peter and Paul may have been among the thousands martyred under Nero. See chapter 13 notes.), One King is living: Vespasian (69 - 79) (Actually, three "kings" were proclaimed in 68 - 69. They were Galba, Otho and Vitellius. The first and last were murdered in the Roman Forum. The other committed suicide rather than be murdered. All were so short-lived and unpopular that word of their comings and goings probably had not gotten around to outpost at Patmos. Vespasian dealt with the Jewish revolt of 67 - 70 on Nero's behalf. He was called to Rome and left his son, Titus, in charge of putting down the Jews. Titus did the job with a vengeance. Remember Masada?). One King is to come: Titus (79 - 81) ("to remain a little while") (Titus was the general who employed the historian Josephus as advisor in the battle for Jerusalem of 68 - 70. Titus destroyed Jerusalem and burned it. His troops killed or enslaved maybe 1.5 million people in the process. It is Titus who did not leave "one stone upon another -- all will be thrown down!" Titus' mistress was Bernice, wife and sister of Herod Agrippa II, Acts 25:23). THE EIGHTH: The Eighth King goes to perdition (destruction) -- the reincarnation of Nero and the prototype for the final antichrist. He is: Domitian (Caesar Domitianus Augustus) (81 - 96) (He "belongs to the seventh" in that he is the younger brother of Titus, son of
Vespasian. Domitian was a paranoid maniac who ruthlessly put to death anyone whom he considered a rival.) "This calls for a mind that has wisdom": Domitian is called "the eighth" in verse 11. Using the ancient cryptography known as "triangular numbering" (today it's called
"factorialization"), eight "becomes" 666 in this way: Sum all numbers to 8 = 36. Sum all numbers to 36 = 666. That's rather mysterious! As "the eight," he is in triangular kinship to "the 666." More about him in chapter 13. 04.06.03 Between Heads & Horns Rev 17:12 Rev 17:{12a} And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, This prophecy of ten horns / kings is projected far into the future. Before identifying these kings, it is essential that we trace a little of the Beast's (Roman Empire's) history previous to these kings’ advents. DIOCLETIAN (AD 245 - 311) was emperor and the despotic persecutor of the Christians. He split the Roman Empire into two parts, east and west (AD 286), and took the East to himself and appointed Maximian emperor of the West. The Beast is split in two. POSTUMUS was declared Caesar by his troops in Gaul (France) in 260, after Emperor VALERIAN was captured by the Persians. He and his successors retained France, Germany (west of the Rhine) and Britain for nearly 15 years, until the Gallic Caesar TETRICUS capitulated to Roman Caesar AURELIAN in 274. 500 years later, this same territory would become the First Reich under the Charles the Great (Charlemagne), King of the Franks. And so it is that Rome was split into three parts, the East, the West and the Gallic -- something like Rev 17:19 tells us: "The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell." CONSTANTINE (272 - 337): He inherited the West at his father's death in 306. By 324 he had defeated all his rivals in battle, including his co-emperor of the East,
LICINIUS. On November 8th of that year, Constantine founded an entirely new capital at Byzantium. By 312, the new city was ready for dedication as Constantinople (modern-day Ankara, Turkey).
By the 4th century, sun worship was an important part of the Imperial Cult. (Again, the sun god was Helios, as represented in the Colossus of Rhodes.) Constantine was a sun worshiper. In 312, before battle with his co-emperor Licinius, he saw a vision of a giant cross (the Chi Rho) rising above the sun, with the words "In Hoc Signo Vinces" ("in this sign [is] victory"). That night he dreamed that Christ commanded him to paint the cross (the Chi Rho) on his soldier's shields for a sure victory. (Chi and Rho are the first two letters of "Christ" in Greek. Chi looks like a capital "X" and Rho like a small "p". Put one on top of the other for the Chi Rho. It is a symbol found frequently in traditional churches today.) The rest of the story is well known. Constantine is now famous for both christianizing paganism and paganizing Christianity. His mixing of the two has had either a positive or detrimental effect (depending on whom you ask) on Christianity for all time. He changed the Sabbath from the seventh day to Sunday, the day of Helios, the Unconquered Sun. He proclaimed that the birth of Christ was on Helios Day, December 25. He was instrumental in making the church policy that we have inherited (like it or not) through the Roman Catholic Church. He persecuted the Jews as Christ-killers. He stomped out the Donatist and Arian "heresies." He actually defined Christianity for us in 325, along with the Council of Bishops at Nicaea, by composing the Nicene Creed. Yet he was not baptized until he was on his deathbed in 337. THE GERMAN /ITALIAN "AXIS": By the 5th century, two Germanic tribes, the Goths and the Vandals, surrounded and squeezed the Empire. The (Visi)goth king ALARIC finally entered Italy and looted Rome in 410. The capital of the Western Empire was moved to Ravenna, Italy, a fortress city. And that was the end of Rome for awhile. In 455, the East and West portions of the Empire became truly separate political entities when THEODOSIUS II of the East died in an accident and VALENTINIAN II of the West was assassinated. By In 476, the imperial army of the West, which was full of German mercenaries, rebelled. THE LAST ROMAN EMPEROR? The last official emperor of Rome (West Empire) was ROMULUS AUGUSTULUS, who abdicated under German pressure in 476 at the age of 16. ODOACER, the leader of German mercenaries in the Roman Army, became "King of Italy." Germany stole the Empire. MILLENNIUM IN THE EAST: The "Eastern Empire" at Constantinople continued on for 1,000 years until the city's destruction in 1453 by European "crusaders." More will be written about the Eastern Empire in the commentary on the Millennium. THE FIRST REICH: The independent Franco / German kingdoms, once Roman provinces, now inherited the Empire. The geography we know as France, Germany and Austria (plus satellites) continued to be known as "The Holy Roman Empire" (or by some variation) from Charlemagne's coronation by Pope Leo III December 25, 800 right on up to its dissolution August 6, 1806. The popes of the Vatican served as the link between Rome and the German “Holy Roman Empire" for 1,000 years, coronating emperors and sharing the power of the office. This was the thousand year First Reich. For more about the First Reich, see the study on the Millennium. In the early 19th century, the emperor FRANCIS II, fearing Napoleon I and wanting to prevent him from usurping the imperial title, officially dissolved the Holy Roman Empire, forming "The Empire of Austria" from its dissolution. The Empire of Austria amounted to the same territory with the same emperor, only under a different name. THE SECOND REICH: 64 years passed. "By blood and iron," Prussian Prince Otto von Bismarck (1815 - 1898) brought unity to the 39 German states for war against France in 1870. Bismarck became the first chancellor of the new "German Empire" in 1871. Designed for military conquest, the Second Reich was short-lived, ending when German emperor William II, "Kaiser (Caesar) Wilhelm," escaped Germany for Holland November 10, 1918. With the signing of the Treaty of Versailles the next day, the German Empire was finished. William II lived in seclusion in Holland's Doorn Castle the rest of his life, dying an old man in 1941. But he lived to see the resurgence of German might, and was buried with full military honors by order of Adolf Hitler. THE THIRD REICH: Hitler asserted the Roman Empire's continuity by the military might of his Third Reich (1934 - 1945). The "axis" of the Axis Powers was Rome / Berlin, Rome still playing "The Whore" with a Beast. The Roman Empire again faded when Hitler inflicted himself with a fatal head wound in 1945 (just as Nero had done). And though the Third Reich seems to have died with Hitler, it lives on in the hearts of his latter-day followers all over the world, and the television, which constantly portrays its story. We are in awe of the Beast! 04.06.04 Ten Horns & the Beast Rev 17:12b-13 Rev 17:{12b} but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast. {13} These are united in yielding their power and authority to the beast; A PROPHECY FOR OUR TIME? Here is prophecy for the distant future -- perhaps for our time. “Ten” kings will rule together with the beast for a very short time, lending their sovereign powers to his. Ten simply means a small number (not necessarily a literal "ten"). THE FOURTH REICH: Fifty-three years have passed since the fall of the Third Reich. In 1990, the Germanys were liberated and reunified; the capital is moved from Bonn back to Berlin. And Europe is becoming a unified economic entity with Germany once again in a position of leadership. A common currency, the Euro, started circulating January 1, 1999. The new Roman Empire, a United States of Europe, is to be chartered exactly 3 1/2 years later, July 1, 2002. Here find your "ten kings yielding their authority to the beast." Name any ten or so -- French president, German chancellor, Slav dictator, English monarch -- any ten "kings" of the EU will do. They give their authority over to the Last Roman Emperor, the Final Beast, who will move the capital city from Strasbourg to Rome. EU HEADLINE: "German Professors: Delay Single Currency" German economic professors are appealing to EU leaders for a postponement of the common currency, saying financial conditions are "most unsuitable" for the Euro (European monetary unit). German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, "who has made the Euro central to his platform for his race for an unprecedented fifth term, said the currency union would begin as planned -- despite the criticism" (Mobile Register, February 10, 1998). In not heeding these professors, the EU may be getting of to an economic start that will eventually lead to tribulation and financial ruin. THE LAST ROMAN EMPEROR -- AD 2002: The last Roman Emperor will ascend from the pit to reign over the EU sometime in the first decade of the 3rd millennium. As Nero was the prototype for
Domitian, Hitler will be the prototype for the Final Emperor. Like Hitler's, the opening years of the Final Emperor's reign will be benevolent and unifying. But in a very short time, like Hitler, he and his Kings will make war on the Lamb and his priests, and will prevail until all the priests are united in the First Resurrection as the great cloud of witnesses seen returning from the sky with the King of Kings. PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN UNION: Since 1994, there has been much talk within the European community about the possibility of electing a single EU president. (Currently the presidency has been rotated between countries every six months.) The president elect would have to have a great deal of charisma to entice some 250 million international voters. The new president of the EU is Romano (“Roman”!) Prodi. Prodi has big plans for a European army: EU PLANS FOR SUPERSTATE ARMY REVEALED The London Telegraph reported today: "The creation of a single army in which British soldiers fight under an EU flag and take orders from a European commander is the 'logical next step', the new head of the European Commission said yesterday. In comments which will embarrass Tony Blair a month before the Euro-elections, Romano
Prodi, the new EC President, said the EU must build its own army or risk being
'marginalised in the new world history'. Mr. Prodi said the single currency meant the EU had already undergone 'a real change in the nature of the state' and should now consider a common army. His plan enraged Tory Euro-skeptics who said building such an army would be a major step towards creating a European
superstate. Asked if he felt the idea of British soldiers fighting for a European commander and under an EU flag were inevitable, Mr. Prodi replied, 'yes...that is inevitable'. Citing events in the Balkans as proof of the need for such a force, he said that without a common foreign and defense policy 'in a future war you have no voice.'" (May 10, 1999,
jvim.com) THE GERMANS WILL "LEAD" EUROPE and its superstate army: Germany lies at the geographic, economic and political heart of Europe, a position which gives it a natural leadership role in shaping the affairs of the continent. (Europe Magazine, 7/94) As the rest of Europe asks what 80 million Germans will do with their power in the future, President Clinton seems confident he knows that answer. It is brutally simple: the Germans will 'lead' Europe. If he puts America's weight behind concrete proposals to upgrade Germany's role in the world, then serious consequences could follow. (Marc Almond in Daily Mail, 7/13/94) This overly pro-German policy is a historic misjudgment on the part of the U.S., and it will have profound consequences as the new century approaches. A European unity founded on overweening German strength cannot be sustained. (UK Intelligence Digest, 7/15/94) Remember, Austria / Germany has inherited the Empire from Rome, and in recent years has brought forth monsters like von Bismarck, Kaiser Wilhelm and Adolf Hitler, and movements like Fascism and National Socialism, still very strong in the European and Arab worlds. There is an evil spiritual reality still glowering behind this nation. THE GERMAN ARMY AND NEONATIONAL SOCIALISM: Germany fears that a Nazi element has infiltrated its armed forces. It believes right-wing forces within its military could undermine its role in international conflicts. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Helmut Kohl warned France that it must get on board with the rest of Europe or face a lesser role in NATO affairs. (9/21/97
jvim.com) It's no secret that the German Army is full of Nazis and its Chancellor threatening neighbors. With nearly a century of World War behind us, and Germany shamed seeks to shame. It seems unreal that the Fourth Reich of an united Europe is quickly forming ranks in our time and right before our eyes. KING OF THE EU? If, by some chance, the EU should return to the monarchial system of government (and there has been some talk of it), who is in line for the office of King / Kaiser / Caesar? Prince Charles and his heir, William III! Charles has first claim over the old Habsburg empire, Russia too, as well as Great Britain. Could Charlie be the False Prophet? Or might the son of the late Princess Di be a beast? Think about that possibility! 04.06.05 War on the Lamb Rev 17:14 Rev 17:{14} they will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful." As in the former persecutions under emperors Caligula, Nero, Domitian, Trajan, Decius and Diocletian, the Fourth Reich will again declare war against the saints, the chosen and their King. The prophecy is so vague here that we can't predict what form the Kingdom of the Lamb will take, be it earthly or heavenly. But Christ will be on hand leading the defense with his faithful martyrs, the fruit of the First Resurrection, his two witnesses -- those who hold the commandments of God and bear the testimony of Jesus. Although persecution against Jews and Christians is at a summit in our days, this final persecution spoken of here emanates from Europe (Rome). In addition, chapter 16 predicts the military aid of "The Kings From the East" (16:12) and "The Kings of the Whole World" (v. 14). All these mighty manifestations of the Dragon will be called together to a place called Harmageddon to fight the final battle for the Earth.
