Why I Sell Products On My Site
(For You Whomever May Be Concerned)
|Snyder's Faith-sharing Evangelism Library - lots of free resources|
Lately I have read the blogs of concerned believers in regard to those of us who provide religious content on the internet charging for products. We are quoted the Master's words (in Old English Script) above, and some go as far as to say we are breaking a commandment in making materials available for sale "on every page." Let me explain my particular viewpoint on this subject.
All the content on my webpages, and there are multiple thousands of them, is free. There is not one page restricted by a password, requiring payment for information. For ten years I have been putting up free sermons, essays, articles, prayers, poetry, spiritual gifts texts, a dozen gifts surveys, and now archeological news. I have never charged a cent for any of it, for I have freely received, and now I freely give.
There was a time when I was working as a church pastor that I could easily afford to purchase the web space and take an incredible amount of time to freely give. This was provided by church members who understood what I was doing as a ministry of the church to the world.
But for the last several years, this financial help and abundance of time has been eliminated. However, the cost for software programs, server time, telephone time for counselees, correspondence time, money for URLs, server space, etc. has to come from somewhere or everything goes down. Not that I would mind that so much, but it would leave that "large hole in the internet" you've been hearing about on TV.
So I have signed up for several affiliate programs and I have published several books, EloHymns, and put up a donation button for anyone called to help. In the first quarter of 2008, I received $35 from CBD, $13 from Amazon, $50 from LuLu.com, and a few donations for web-based psychological assessments.
Needless to say, business isn't booming. That could be reason enough to take down all ads.
However, this first quarter amount did go directly toward website expenses.
Now there are numerous "get rich quick" schemers who have contacted me about putting ads on my sites that appeal to greedy people - I would certainly make plenty of money; maybe enough to sustain my ministry. And why not? A few going now really work and are actually ethical.
But WHAT WOULD YOU THINK ABOUT THAT? Snyder is not only independent of churches, but now has fallen into covetousness! Some would certainly send me letters. As it is, I do receive plenty of mail from Baptists and other cultists like them with little more than personal insults in them. I am a very sensitive person. I do not want to fight it out with Baptists and Calvinists.
I just want to work for Yahshua in about the only way I presently am able - through the power of the Internet. Many lives have been changed, I can tell you that for a fact, including mine.
Next time you see a donate button on my site, remember that thousands upon thousands of great resources are here and they are free. Then click that button and give a generous gift, or buy a couple of my books. You will find them informative -- some have said "FASCINATING!"
Yahweh bless you as you contribute all you have to his malkuth shamayim.
